Interesting section of The deterioration of the coastal environment : Low Pollution Man-made island

In Johor Bahru there is a Man-made Island mega project called Forest City, that was an integrated residential development and private town located on the slopes of Gelang Patah, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia on 1,370 hectares.

Despite being marketed as "an energy-efficient, ecologically sensitive, land-conserving, low-polluting offshore city", the development has had significant negative environmental impact, with irreversible damage due to reclamation of ecologically sensitive coastal wetlands.

In addition, changes have already been felt by the local fishing community. Fishermen complained that they find less seafood now than before. Not only that, but some other fishermen have also complained of reduced catches and growing petrol costs due to the extra mileage incurred by the causeway and more distant fishing grounds.
